Meet Daniela & Family

We sat down with Daniela, a mother of two vibrant sons and also a designer and art director based in Bali. Daniella originally hails from Mexico and is the founder of @tedxubud and partner of @elamiandco @ubudopenstudios.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family
I'm originally from Mexico City and arrived in Bali 15 years ago. It was supposed to be just a two-month adventure! I met Olaf, my husband, here, and both of our kids, Oliver and Lucas, were born in Ubud. Indonesia reminds me so much of Mexico in many ways and truly feels like home to me.

What are some words you might use to describe yourself as a mother?
Depends on the day! But I'd say truly Latin, which Oliver labels as “strict”. Proud. Present. Evolving. Resilient. Always trying to find balance in the beautiful chaos of raising third-culture kids.

Describe the perfect day in Legian with your tribe
Sunshine, a long, slow Sunday morning at Rüsters, an afternoon by the pool, sushi and Gaya Gelato for dinner.

@elamiandco has put together some incredible events and experiences on the island - what inspires you in this work?
Thank you! Indonesia and its creative community are so inspiring to me. The constant dialogue between preservation and innovation. Bali offers this perfect fusion of raw natural beauty and profound cultural depth. When curating an event, we look for those moments where contemporary design can elevate traditional elements rather than overshadow them. Ultimately, creating experiences that encourage genuine connections—to the island, to Balinese culture, and to each other. Now that everything is so digital, these tangible, sensory moments feel more precious than ever.

What does joy look and feel like to you?
Finding a good avocado. Spontaneous dance parties in the kitchen. Conversations that lose track of time. Sunlight dancing through palm fronds. Strong coffee on a quiet morning. Children's laughter. That moment when creative vision materializes. An organized cupboard. Creating something from nothing. Finding home in foreign places.
